10 June 2024

An explosion occurred at the Quantum Foods feed mill in Malmesbury at approximately 15h00 hours on Monday 10 June 2024.
The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time. No crime is suspected.

Three people were injured, one of whom is in a critical condition.

All safety protocols were followed during and after the incident and automated emergency equipment was successfully activated. Protocols included a roll call to establish the safety of all employees on site, with all employees accounted for. Fire, law enforcement and emergency services responded quickly to safeguard the site and people. Fire services were able to bring the fire that resulted from the explosion under control and stabilised the environment.

An engineer has been contracted to launch an independent investigation which will include an assessment of possible structural damage. The incident has also been reported to the Department of Labor.

Physical damage at the property is limited to equipment at the raw material intake area. At the moment operating activities outside the affected area of the feed mill can continue.

The Quantum Foods board and executive team would like to thank law enforcement, fire and medical emergency services for their quick and effective response and assistance.  Our thoughts are with the three injured individuals and their families.

The company is assisting authorities with any information that might be required.
